GOP: Meet the Members: Jon Thorup

December 4, 2018

Jon Thorup is seeking his first term in the Iowa House.

Jon was raised in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School.  After high school he attended college and worked part-time for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.  At 20-years-old Jon was hired as a State Police Officer. After graduating from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy he was assigned for three years to the post at the State Capitol.  Following his first assignment, he was assigned as a Road Trooper in Osceola for one year and then to Poweshiek County for five years. During that time, he lived in rural Searsboro and served as a volunteer firefighter.

In 2006, Jon transferred to the State Fire Marshall and was able to move back to Knoxville.  When a senior Trooper position opened in Marion County, he transferred back to the Iowa State Patrol.

Jon is a board member of the State Patrol Officers Council and the Iowa State Troopers Association.

In the House, Jon will focus on improving mental health in the state and keeping our children safe.
