GOP: Meet Our Members – Guy Vander Linden

Representative Guy Vander Linden just finished serving his third term in the Iowa House.  He represents Iowa’s 79th District which includes Oskaloosa and Pella.

Rep. Vander Linden serves as the Chairman of the Ways and Means committee, and also serves on the Administrative Rules Review, Commerce, and the Administration & Regulation budget subcommittee.

Guy was born and raised in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He is a 1970 graduate of the University of Iowa and holds a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California.


He is a graduate of the Marine Corps’ Command Staff College and the National War College. He went on to earn the rank of Brigadier General in the United States Marines.

Highlights of his military career include serving as a Presidential Helicopter Command Pilot during the Reagan Presidency, command of a Marine Helicopter Squadron in the first Gulf War, and command of the Naval Aviation Depot in Cherry Point, North Carolina.

After retiring from the Marines, Guy served as a Vice President at Agusta Westland, Inc. and for the Defense Division of Rolls-Royce North America.

Since returning to Iowa, Vander Linden has served in various volunteer capacities for organizations including Habitat for Humanity, the YMCA and Trees Forever.

Guy is marred to Carrie and is the proud father of two sons and two daughters.
