Dems: Reduce driving distractions in work zones

Iowa’s traffic fatalities have been on the rise this year, including fatal crashes in work zones. Distractions are dangerous for any driver, but they can be especially deadly when traveling through a work zone.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is in the midst of its busiest construction season ever, with more than $716 million in projects in hundreds of work zones across the state. Hundreds of other construction projects are underway on county and city roads, as well.

Expect the unexpected in any work zone. Speed limits may be reduced, traffic lanes may change, and people and equipment may be at work on or near the road. For more information on work zone safety, go to www.iowadot.gov/workzone.
