RidingFormer State Representative Joe Riding of Altoona announced today that he will run again for the Iowa House in District 30, which includes the cities of Altoona, Bondurant, Elkhart, Mitchellville and Runnells.

“From shortchanging public schools to privatizing Medicaid to funding for clean water, I’ve heard from citizens across the district who are concerned with the direction the State of Iowa is headed,” said Riding.

“The state budget is tight and by law only 99% of estimated revenues can be allocated. However, we do have responsible choices to make. Do we continue to fund tax credits to large profitable corporations or invest in public education again? Do we continue to fund free health insurance and other perks to state legislators or hire additional staff to protect the rights of the 560,000 thousand Iowans who have been tossed into the privatization of Medicaid. These are the conversations we need to have,” said Riding, a Democrat.

Riding served in the Iowa House two years ago.  He worked on the Commerce, Local Government, Transportation, Ways and Means Committees and the Administration and Regulation Appropriations Budget Subcommittee.

“I will work together with my colleagues in the Iowa House and listen to the people of District 30 to make progress for Iowans again,” added Riding.

Riding is a small business owner and three-term Altoona City Council member.  He is a 40 year resident of Eastern Polk County and manages the family-owned business Terrace Hills Golf Course in Altoona. Joe has been married for 34 years to his wife, Leann.  They have two children and three grandchildren.
