December 16, 2015

Reenie MontgomeryFormer Monticello City Councilwoman Reenie Montgomery announced today that she will run for state representative in District 96, which includes Delaware County and part of Jones County (Monticello and Anamosa).

“After serving on the city council and working with law enforcement in both Delaware and Jones Counties, I’m ready to serve our communities at the State Capitol.  I understand the challenges we face to keep our communities safe,” said Montgomery. “It’s time for new leadership in the Iowa House that will put aside politics, listen, and do what’s best for us.”

Reenie lived in Monticello for many years, where she served on the City Council and was elected by the Mayor to be Mayor Pro Tem.  She was also a volunteer EMT with the Monticello Ambulance Service and a mentor in the Monticello School District. She worked at the Monticello Police Department while also serving as a Reserve Police Officer.

Montgomery’s career has also taken her through Anamosa, where she served as an Administrative Assistant, Reserve Officer, and FEMA Coordinator.  She currently works for the Manchester Police Department, serving as a Dispatcher for the Delaware County Communications Center.  She is also the Union Steward for Teamsters Local 238.

“My top priority will be providing more economic security to families in Delaware and Jones Counties.  I’ll work to expand state support for our local schools and bring jobs with decent wages to our local communities. I’ll also work to keep health care and mental health services affordable and available locally as well as find new ways to add value to the crops of our local farmers,” added Montgomery.

Montgomery grew up in Earlville and Lake Delhi. She attended Xavier Elementary School before graduating from Maquoketa Valley High School.  During school, she worked at the family small business where she learned the value of hard work.  Montgomery currently lives in Manchester with her husband, Tim, who is a police officer in Manchester. She has two step-children and enjoys painting, hunting, making candles, and reading.
