Agriculture is the backbone of the Iowa economy. With advances in science and technology, there are tremendous opportunities to continue our agricultural growth.
Members of the Legislature’s Agriculture committees recently reviewed a plan to boost our economy by emphasizing agricultural products and alternative energy. Iowa agriculture is strong nationally, ranking #1 in production of corn, soybeans, hogs and eggs. In 2008, agriculture generated $23.6 billion in production value in the state.
The new plan, Iowa AgriScope 2030, aims to boost these numbers even higher.
The plan focuses on protecting Iowa’s comparative advantages in agriculture, improving the business climate in the state, encouraging innovation through world-class research, and expanding economic activity by increasing exports and developing new industries.
The plan was developed with the help of business leaders and experts. To review the plan, go to www.iasoybeans.com/mediaroom/agriscope.html.
